Maria Dorsey Obituary

Visitation Details Sunday, October 22nd, 2017 2:00pm - 6:00pm, Dracut Funeral Home Monday, October 23rd, 2017 12:00pm, Immaculate Conception Church LOWELL, MA-Maria Catherine Dorsey, 53, a Lowell resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 14th at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, in Burlington. She was born in Arlington Virginia, a daughter of Mary C (Teixeira) Dorsey, of Lady Lake, Florida, and the late Francis Eugene Dorsey. Maria was a cherished daughter, best friend and supportive partner in all their various endeavors. Since 2005, Maria worked as the Food and Hospitality Manager for the Lowell Summer Music Series at Boardinghouse Park, coordinating hospitality for performing artists and their crews, and working with managers regarding artists contract riders. Maria worked as a Case Manager for the Lowell Middlesex Shelter, served on their Board of Directors, and was an advocate during its initial development. She was a Program Director at American Training, in Lawrence, teaching Life Skills to mentally ill individuals ready to make a transition from a group home to independent living. In partnership with her mother, Maria was owner of ‘The Dubliner' restaurant in downtown Lowell, although an ‘Irish Pub' she strived to maintain it as a family restaurant. She also managed ‘The Dubliner' in downtown Boston. Like her dad, everyone Maria met was a life-long friend always greeted with a smile and a hug. Because of her warmth, she made 'The Dubliner' a home away from home for many foreign summer workers and UMass students, especially the hockey teams. She maintained contact when many turned professional in Canada, even attending events and award ceremonies there. She later learned that the students called her ‘Mom' at the university dorms. Surviving her besides her mother are her aunts: Lucy Aslanian, and her husband Oscar, of Tewksbury; and Eileen Teixeira, of New Bedford; her cousins: Ara Aslanian; Jennifer Dion; Cheryl Rios; Frank, Michael, Jeffrey, Kevin, and Stephen Teixeira; and many friends. ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 2:00-6:00 p.m., on Sunday October 22nd, at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. Her Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday October 23rd, at 12 noon at the Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. Memorial contributions can be made to the Boys and Girls clubs of Greater Lowell; 657 Middlesex Street; Lowell, MA 01851.
