Anna Shaw

Life of Dr. Anna L. Shaw Dr. Anna L. Shaw, PhD (Ann) graced this world with her presence June, 3, 1948, in New York, New York to the Late Alvin Franklin and Ruby Winstead. She was an only child. She was raised and reared in church by her grandmother, the Late Lena S. Winstead. At the age of 5, Anna was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 9 at Bible Way Church under the leadership of Bishop Smallwood E. Williams. Anna was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System. She graduated from Anna Burdick Vocational High School in 1966. Over the years during her professional career she became employed as a Secretary, Administrative Assistant, Office Manager, and Manager over the secretarial staff for several prestigious law firms and companies that include Arnold and Porter, The District Council (DC City Government) and Finnegan and Henderson located in Washington, DC. As a teenager, Anna taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was an original member of the Washington & Maryland Diocese Choir (WMDC) of Bible Way church which was established in the early 1960s under the direction of Elder Wallace W. Williams. She was a featured soloist on the WMDC’s first and only album entitled, “He Gave His Life” and sang lead on, “Motherless Child”. Anna was an anointed first soprano. When the WMDC reorganized/transitioned into the Bible Way Temple Choir in 1974, she was the first Vice President of the choir and was one of the choir’s narrators. Her voice would captivate audiences as she worshipped God. In 1968 she was united in holy matrimony to Calvin Ford. Through their union they have three children, Adam C. Ford, Christine M. Psalms, and Daniel A. Ford. Anna loved her children dearly. She not only raised them, but she poured into them all that God gave her to give to them. Whenever you saw Anna, you would see her children at her side. Anna was called to the ministry in her teen years. She was a Jr. Missionary at Bible Way Church and later became an Evangelist of the Gospel under the leadership of Bishop Darnell Leach of Shiloh Abundant Life Church. Anna allowed God to use her to preach to the nation. She held revivals, preached at churches and women’s conferences up and down the East Coast with her three children right by her side. Many were brought to Christ as she proclaimed the gospel. Anna also counseled many women and helped them navigate through life. In 1994 Anna married Wayne Banfill Shaw. They were happily married for 26 years. During the later years of their marriage she started and pastored Grace Tabernacle Church. She continued to preach the gospel until her health began to decline. In 2006 Anna received her Doctorate in Theology from Fort Wayne Theological Seminary and Bible College.
