Obituary

Doreen Thompson

October 8, 1930 – January 16, 2021

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mom, grandma, great grandma and sister, Doreen May Thompson.

Mom left this life the same way she lived it; with grace, dignity, a quiet strength and on her own terms.

She leaves behind her children, Kevin (Deb), Vicki (Kelly), Karen (Fred) and Shelley (Garry); grandchildren, Shauna (Tom), Chad, Brandon and Alyssa (Jordan); great grandchildren, Taylor, Jordon, Austin and Madison; sister Winnifred Kettleson (Truro, NS) and brother David Nelson (Ponoka);  nieces, nephews and loyal friends Maryann Dahlgren and Dusty Phair.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Annie Nelson; brothers Ray Nelson and Clifford Nelson; our dad William (Bill) Thompson and mom’s second husband Gordon Snider.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held with a celebration of life to take place at a later date.

Special thank you to mom’s medical team Dr. Mike Peyton for his many years of care and friendship, the Pharmacists at Rexall, Dr. Botes, Tanya and Lonnie at the Drayton Valley Cancer Center, Dr. Frobb, the staff at Home Care - Cindy Young, Jocelyn Callihoo, Julie Pequin and the many Health Care Aides we were fortunate to have met over the past year.  You ladies are all invaluable. To the amazing nursing staff at the Drayton Valley Hospital – Palliative Care, thank you from the bottom of our very grateful hearts for your tender, gentle hands in taking care of mom with such respect and dignity.  Your caring, compassion, kindness and support you showed to us and for going “above and beyond” will never be forgotten. You were our rainbows we needed to get through this very difficult time.

In lieu of flowers we would ask donations may be made to STARS, the Stollery Children’s Hospital or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Condolences may be sent to www.affinityfuneralservice.ca
