Eleanor M. Sliney

Eleanor M (Smith) Sliney, 88, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Friday morning at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard Sliney. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Helen (McIntyre) Smith. She was raised and educated in Lynn and has lived in Peabody for the past 36 years. Eleanor worked for over 25 years at Essex Bank in both Lynn and Peabody before she retired. Upon her retirement from the bank, she continued working for North Shore Elders Services for an additional 4 years. She will be dearly missed by all and will miss hearing her favorite saying “sipping through a straw, that’s how I met my mother-in-law, I sipped first, she sipped last because she sipped so fast.” Eleanor is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Karen A and Theodore Morris of Reading, and Eilene S Sliney of Peabody, her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sharyn Sliney of Palmer, her grandchildren, Brian Morris and Carrie Caskey, her great grandchildren, Steven and Theo Morris, Spencer and Jaiden Caskey, and Maximus Morris, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Ellen M. Sliney, and her two sisters, Barbara Garuti and Janice Viola. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lynn to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing as well.
