Fred D. Smith, 90, of Fostoria, passed away at 8:57 am Monday January 18, 2021 at his home. He was born May 25, 1930 in Kansas, Ohio to the late Roy and Louisa (Hartzog) Smith. He married Lucille Brose June 10, 1950 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Alvada and she preceded him in death November 18, 2019. Surviving are five children, Frederick W. (Darlene) Smith, Fostoria, Paula L. (Mike Mangett) Moehling, New Riegel, Jean I. (Ronald) Tiell, Fostoria, Christina M. (Stephen) Zoeller, New Riegel and Donald E. Smith, Fostoria; 15 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas R. Smith (2000); four grandchildren, Jason and Jeffry Moehling, Laura Zoeller and Shannon (Tiell) Lopez; two brothers, Thomas and William Smith and sister, Mona (Smith) Williams. Fred retired in 1990 from Nickle Plate Railroad as an electric welder. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Pheasants Forever and Sandusky River Coon Hunters. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Friday January 22, 2021 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Poggemeyer presiding. Burial will follow in St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 am – 10 am at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME 133 W.
