Hazel “Rash” Fleming, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2021.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jerry Fleming; her parents, Emmett and Clara Rash; a baby sister, Frances Irene; four brothers, Jack, Earl, Edward, and Emmett, Jr.; and a grandson, Michael Hayes.   She is survived by two daughters, Rita Canter-Blythe, of Abingdon, Va. and Cindy Gibbs of Damascus, Va.; two grandsons, Daniel Canter of Abingdon and Billy Joe Canter, Jr. and wife, Sabrina, of Sevierville, Tenn.  Also, a sister, Mary Spears of Abingdon; four brothers: Ray Rash and wife, Bambi, of Bristol, Tenn.; Daniel Rash and wife, Jan, of Falls Church, Va.; Joe Rash and wife, TokSun, of Clarksville, Tenn.; and John Rash of Apollo Beach, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Rash, widow of Emmett, Jr., of Apollo Beach, Fla and Joyce Rash, widow of Edward, of Crozet, Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews.   Hazel was a long-time employee of the Federal Government.  She retired from the Social Security Administration, Bristol, Va. in 1995.  After retirement, she started writing and has a number of books published.  She is also published in national magazines and anthologies.  She gives credit to the Lord for all of her accomplishments during her lifetime.   A private funeral ceremony will be livestreamed on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. from the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Don Paxton officiating.  The livestreamed service may be accessed at https://www.farrisfuneralservice.com/services/live-stream.  Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport, Tenn.  Social distancing will be enforced, and masks will be required for attendance.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, Tenn. 38105.                 Those wishing to share memories, express sympathy, and send “Hugs from Home” may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com.
