Carolyn Joan Puckett Obituary

Carolyn Joan Puckett, age 73 of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, went to be with the Good Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Brady and Daisy B Thompson Fletcher and a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was born in Richlands, Virginia. She was a 1965 graduate of Honaker High School and a 1968 graduate Lincoln Memorial University. She taught 10 years at Council High School and 21 years at Honaker High School, dedicating herself to students in the classroom, on the field, and on the court. She was always an advocate for the potential of every child. Retirement from education did not slow her down. She worked as a librarian for the Honaker Community Library for many years. She also served in many church and civic capacities. Throughout her life, she was a pillar in the local community and her church. She served on the Honaker Redbud Festival committee, the Honaker Christmas Parade committee, and as a member of the Honaker Lions Club and Honaker Garden Club. She co-founded SPLASH Ministries. She led annual fundraisers for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She served as a volunteer in many roles in the AWANA program. She was the long-time VBS Director for her church and held a weekly Bible study and wellness class for many Tuesdays. She lived her life with a “get it done” attitude and trust in her Heavenly Father. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center and Markey Cancer Center doctors, nurses, and staff for their wonderful care and compassion in fighting the good fight. Special thanks also go to Lebanon Physical Therapy, Divine Home Health Care, and Legacy Hospice for their dedicated care during her illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, in-laws and cousins. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Tony Puckett of the home; daughters Linda Wood of Big A Mountain and Sarah Whisenhunt and husband Tim of Weber City, VA; grandchildren Amber Wood and fiancé Brian Stanley of Honaker and Devin Helton of Honaker; her favorite and only great-granddaughter Carolyn Lyric Wood; sisters-in-law Dolly Hamilton and Ruby Bryson and husband Dave both of Clinchco, VA; special cousins Gary Stinson, Larry Stinson, and Linda Eaton; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dedicated special friends that meant so much to her.
