A native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Boyd and Nancy Woodruff Boyd. She attended Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and worked as a dietician at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School.
