Mrs. Dorothy “Gie” Calloway Nelson, 84 of Tampa, Florida transitioned peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2021.   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 23, at 9:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue with Reverend Dr. Florence Parra, officiating.  Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.  Please follow the CDC Guidelines.  Masks are required. 

Mrs. Dorothy C. Nelson was a native of Colquitt, Georgia and early in her life, her family relocated to Tallahassee, FL where she attended Bond Middle School. Dorothy met and married, Mr. James Nelson and later in their marriage, they moved to St. Petersburg, FL for job related purposes. After a few years in St. Petersburg, FL, they moved to Tampa, FL.  Mrs. Nelson continued her education and graduated from George S. Middleton High School and furthered her education in the field of Nursing. 

Ms. Nelson loved the Lord and her church family. She always worked diligently in her church, and love to read her Bible. Professionally, she worked as a CNA at Hillsborough County Hospital. Advancing her career at University Community Hospital as an X-Ray Lab Technician. She retired after 30 years of service as a CNA. Ms. Nelson was a loving and devoted person extending her help and gratitude to others as a foster parent. 

Ms. Nelson was preceded in death by: her parents, Mose and Luedester Calloway; daughter, Joy Nelson; son, Jeffrey M. Nelson; sisters, Deloris C. Floyd and Agnes Calloway; and brother, John D. Calloway.   

She leaves heart-felt memories with: her children, Luedester G. Lyles, James R. Nelson (Frankie), Terry L. Nelson, and Towanda Stennis (Johnny), all of Tampa, FL; brother, R. Bud Calloway (Christine) of Tallahassee, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; special friends & Coworkers, Ms. Mamie Sims and Elizabeth McQuay; and dedicated neighbor, Ms. Sharon Jones.  

The visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, January 22 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue.  We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines.  Masks are required.
