James E. Gallick, 71, of Streator, Illinois passed away January 15, 2021 at Aperion Care in Marseilles. 

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.  Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.

  Visitation will be from 9 - 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  Social distancing will be followed and face coverings are required.

  Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. 

  Born June 21, 1949 in Streator, he was the son of Edmund and Margaret (Tkach) Galick.  He married Rosanne Negray on May 19, 1973.

  He is survived by his wife, Rosanne, of Streator; two sons, Steven Gallick of Gridley and Christopher (Michelle) Gallick of Santa Clara, California; granddaughters Lily Rose and Grace Gallick; nieces, Mary Therese O’Dwyer, Jennifer Jason, Chelsea Negray, nephew, Mark Brennan, and many close cousins.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Robert Brennan, and his father-in-law, Ray Negray.

  Born and raised in Streator, Jim graduated from St. Stephen’s Grade School and Streator High School with the class of 1968.  Afterward, he attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria.

  Jim served in the United States Army and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea during the Vietnam era.

  He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and was a current a member of  St. Michael the Archangel Parish.  He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790, the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

  After leaving the military, he worked for Anthony Company and Butler Service Group. He began work at the former Peabody-Myers in 1981 as a draftsman, and retired from Vactor Manufacturing in 2012 in the Technical Publications Department.

  Jim was a proud Veteran and faithfully served in the funeral military honor guard.

  He loved sports and was an avid fan of both the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.  He enjoyed taking bus trips to Wrigley Field and was finally able to celebrate when his beloved Cubs won the World Series.  He was a very vocal fan and was always willing to help the umpires when making their calls, whether on location, or remotely from local establishments.

  Jim was a very loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, always interested in the events of his family.  He was a good listener, and an even better story teller.  Whether the story was true or not, people always enjoyed listening to how he told it, always adding in humorous information.

  Jim will be deeply missed by his loving family, his man-cave friends, and his patriot friends at the Legion.
