Marlene Joyce Jewers Obituary

Age 67, Truro, formerly of Sheet Harbour, made her transition peacefully with dig- nity and grace while surrounded by love, at a time of her choosing, on January 15, 2021. Born on August 27, 1953 in Sheet Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Melvina (Boutilier). Mom was born with a resilient spirit which she maintained throughout her lifetime. In 1959, the end of the polio epidemic, mom was diagnosed with the illness at age six. She spent months in hospital, endured multiple surgeries and received physical rehab. This did not stop her from swimming with her friends or climbing trees. Mom was a caretaker her entire life; first, raising her daughter solely for the first five years. She then worked as a CCA at the local nursing home where she cared for residents treating them like family. She later cared for both her aging parents in her home as well as her spouse when he braved Leukemia. At age 50 after the passing of her spouse, mom moved from her hometown and went to college where she completed a diploma program in Human Services. Afterwards, she worked in a women's shelter until she was forced to retire due to the impact of Multiple Sclerosis. Mom enjoyed cooking, baking, music, gardening and especially spending time with loved ones. She was a member of St. Michaels Anglican Church and always upheld a strong faith. Marlene was predeceased by her parents; spouse, James "Jimmy" Jewers (1998), long-time, partner, Bob Allen (December 15, 2020); and brother, Vernon. She is survived by daughter, Lisa (Don MacDonald), Enfield; joy of her life, granddaughter, Juliana; and her father, Mike Williams; siblings, Mildred MacPherson, Doreen (Carl) Bezanson, Jeannie (Donnie) Boutilier, Roger, Ernest (Brenda), Reggie (Irma); stepchildren, Gaye, Trevor, Charlene, Randall and their families; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many healthcare professionals who have provided care over the years including staff at the Nova Scotia Rehab Centre, MS Clinic, homecare staff in Sheet Harbour and Lantz, MAID Team and Cedarstone Enhanced Care where mom lived since June 2020. Many thanks to Rev. Canon David Fletcher for regularly visiting mom during the pandemic. Arrangements have been entrusted to D.S. Crowell and Son Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Atlantic Division or the Nova Scotia SPCA. "May your spirit fly free Nana. You are and will forever be loved".
