Our heartfelt condolences are with the family at this time. Ruby Bishop Davis was born to Clarence and Olivia DuBose Bishop on October 31, 1934 in Hartsville, South Carolina. She was six of ten children. Her parents and siblings Arabell, Clarence Jr., Eleazer "Dee", Irene, Rose Marie and Gloria preceded her in death. Ruby accepted Christ as his personal savior and was affiliated with the New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Ruby received her education in the Darlington County public schools in the area and was a high school graduate. Because of her love and devotion to her family, she dedicated herself to caring for her family. Being in her presence was always indeed a treat. The many family gatherings and bonds she shared always brought her great joy. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and a special interest in the lottery. Ruby had a classy style and took great pride in her clothing. She also was not a stranger to stores because she loved shopping. On December 29, 1962, Howard and the former Ruby Bishop were joined in holy matrimony at the home of her late brother and sister-law Eleazer D. and Dorothy M. Bishop, by the late Rev. Ed Spann. Ruby was afforded the opportunity to live in numerous states during her husband’s Navy career including; Tennessee, Virginia and Connecticut. Her employment career was the area of Health Care. During their life in Connecticut, Ruby was affiliated with the Freewill Baptist Church in Groton, and was member of the church Pastor Aide Club. In 2007, Ruby and Howard returned to South Carolina and joined the New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Ruby was also a Member of the Young Ladies Society of North Hartsville. The highlight of her life after returning to South Carolina was the countless hours spent with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Those left to cherish her loving memories are her sister, Joyce Bishop Gainey; her brother, Charlie (Ruby) Bishop; sister-in-law, Ola M. Bishop, sister-in-law, Evelyn Davis and brothers-in-law; Edward (Tommie Lil) Davis, and Elder Willie Marion (Joe Ann) Davis and a a host of four generations of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
