Charleen Kay Heath Ashtabula, Ohio Obituary

Charleen Kay Heath

Charleen Kay (Rappold) Heath, age 73, of Concord, NC, and Ashtabula passed away on January 8, 2021 in the home of her daughter, Kristine, with whom she had lived since 2007, surrounded by her daughter, grandchildren, and son-in-law who all adored her and who had cared for her during the last thirteen years. Charleen was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to Frederick Rappold and Esther (Olsen-Rappold) Beebe on January 26, 1947. She attended high school at Ashtabula High School and graduated in 1965. She went on to pursue a Bachelor of Education degree at Kent State University-Ashtabula, hoping to teach English but chose to put that aside to become the loving mother of four children. She later returned to Kent State University-Ashtabula after raising her family to obtain her Associate Degree in Business Administration while working all day and taking evening college classes. Charleen worked at Adams & Moore Accounting Firm (now Snodgrass) before beginning her many years of dedication at ACMC. She is known by many throughout the county for her numerous years as the administrative assistant/executive secretary for various CEOs from 1997-2002 at Ashtabula County Medical Center, and at the ACMC Foundation from 2002-2007. Her fondest years at ACMC were working side by side with Dwight Beebe and Rick Richardson, who became life-long family friends along with their wives and children. Charleen was also co-owner of C & R Electronics and TV Repair, and co-owner/proprietor of ABC Lanes for many years. She also worked at the Carlisle-Allen Department Store on Main Street in various departments part-time for many years, and Heartland Express Corner Store in Saybrook. After moving to NC, she worked part-time at Home Depot in Charlotte and did a little babysitting for neighbors. Throughout her life, Charleen earned many awards and honors for her service, dedication, and hard work. She was a very hard-working, dependable person, who often worked three jobs at the same time to help support her family. Colleagues have described Charleen as very dedicated, accurate, efficient, and someone to marvel at in her abilities, however, she was also described as someone who went out of her way for others, and not focused on just doing her job but someone who looked out for her colleagues. She was involved in many different charities and organizations throughout Ashtabula, including the ACMC Foundation fundraising events, Corporate Challenge events in the county, The Ashtabula Maritime Museum- where she served through the years as their secretary and as treasurer, The Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum, The Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce, The Ashtabula Elks Lodge- where she served weekly breakfasts to members and guests, and a main committee member for many years for the Class of 1965 Ashtabula High School reunions. Charleen, a bowling proprietor of ABC Lanes for many years, was very involved in bowling leagues and served as a director on the Board of the Ashtabula Women's Bowling Association, as well as a certified coach and instructor for USBC Youth Bowling leagues. Charleen's greatest love was to be with her family! She never missed the events and activities her children were involved in, nor her grandchildren. She was always the cheerleader in the stands for her children and grandchildren! Throughout her busy life, she was always a very dedicated mother and grandmother. She cherished the times shared with her children and grandchildren, and always looked forward to family gatherings and holiday celebrations that brought everyone together. Although she was very hard-working and dedicated to the various responsibilities and offices she held in her career and running self-owned businesses, her family was the center of everything to her and it was always amazing to see her run from one responsibility to the next without hesitation or complaint. She also had a love for music and dancing, playing BINGO at a young age with her grandmother, later her mother, and then her children. Charleen enjoyed sports, especially the golfing and bowling leagues she participated in. At a younger age, she played softball. She also enjoyed playing card games- a popular pastime in her family that began from the time she was young throughout her adult life. She very much enjoyed playing different games with her grandchildren, and no matter what game she played with her grandchildren, she made them work for the "W"! She loved printing pictures on her computer for her grandchildren to color so she could hang them up around the house also! On occasion, she also enjoyed taking vacations to other locations in the world, including chaperoning her daughters' school trips to Mexico, Spain, and a side excursion they took together to Africa, and chaperoning her son's school trip to Germany. She also traveled on a few cruises with a group of special friends. Many of her friends have described Charleen as always being so much fun to be around from the time she was young, and a wonderful woman always with a smile on her face. Charleen enjoyed making sure everyone around her was taken care of and happy. She was a very giving person, who always put everyone else and their needs ahead of herself. Charleen is survived by her four children: daughter, Kristine (Randy) Sidbeck of Concord, NC and Ashtabula; son, Roy (Stephanie) Heath III of Medina, Ohio; daughter, Debra (Rick Fuller Jr.) Heath of North Kingsville Ohio, and son, Charles (Courtney) Heath of Ashtabula, Ohio; grandchildren, Caleb, Austin, Matthew, Dylan Sidbeck of Concord, NC, Meghan Heath and Ryan Bowles of Medina, Emily Heath and Austin Shaffer of Ashtabula; her former sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, who all remained close through the years: Barbara and Jerry Spangler of Jefferson, Donna and Jim Schultz of Painesville.
