John Thomas Hartman Jr., Retired Chief Warrant Officer II United States Coast Guard, 98 of Follansbee, WV, passed away at 4:38 AM on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV. John was born on January 23, 1922 in Norfolk, VA. He was the son of the late John Thomas Hartman Sr., and Ola (Garrison) Hartman. John served proudly in the United States Coast Guard during WWII and the Korean War retiring after 20 years of service to the military. During his military career, John received the American Defense, American Area, European African ME Camp and Victory World War II Medals. Many will remember John for his tech savvy and exceptional knowledge of computers and electronics. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara (Summers) Hartman and his six siblings. John is survived by his wife, Gloria (Harkins) Hartman of Weirton, WV, a son, John Thomas Hartman III, two step-sons, Matthew Harkins and Wayne Harkins, a granddaughter, Jewelienne Smith and her husband, Matthew, a great grandson, Ares Ensell and significant other Aubrey, a great great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. A private interment with Military Honors by the United States Coast Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will be held at St. John Cemetery Haven of Rest, Colliers, WV. The James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 is honored and privileged to serve the Hartman family with such honorable and dignified arrangements.
