Gladys Buchanan, age 94, of Pineola, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15th, 2021 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. A native of Avery County, she was the daughter of the late James and Vernie McCurry Miller, and the wife of the late Bernie Buchanan who passed away in 2017. She was also preceded in death by a son, Randall Buchanan and two brothers: Billy and Carol Miller. Gladys was a devoted member of Pineola Baptist Church and was a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and spending time with her family. Left to cherish her memories is her son, Ricky Buchanan (Natalie) and daughter-in-law, Beverly, both of Jonas Ridge; granddaughter, Jessica Buchanan of Pineola and grandson, Justin Buchanan (Holly) of Spruce Pine. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 18th, 2021 at Pineola Baptist Church. Chaplin Lonnie Barnes will officiate. Burial will follow in the George H. Barrier Cemetery.
