Dale Edward Barnes

Dale Edward Barnes, 92, of Rockville, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Franciscan Health East in Lafayette. Born March 15, 1928, in Clinton, Indiana, he was the son of Edward and Flora Overpeck Barnes. He married Mary Alice Skinkle on July 1, 1950 in Valparaiso, Indiana, she survives. Dale attended Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago and Indiana University. He graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1950. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 60 years. He and his wife owned and operated Barnes Mortuary in Rockville from 1966 to1992. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving for 1 ½ years in Korea, in 293rd Graves' Registration. Dale was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockville, Masonic Lodge #8 F& AM since 1954, Rockville Elks, American Legion, VFW, O.E.S., and Rotary International. He was formerly a member of the Shrine, Scottish Rite, and received the Sagamore of the Wabash. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Barnes; 2 children, James Edward (Caryl) Barnes of Lake Holiday, and Kristin (James) Cornelisson of West Lafayette; 2 grandchildren, Ariel Cornelissen and Ross Cornelissen; step grandson, Jason Johnson and half-sister, Janet Andrews of Detroit Michigan. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Market Street, Rockville, with Pastor Jon Overbey officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Church. Burial will be at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville with Military Graveside Rites by the Parke County Veteran’s Association. Care has been entrusted to Barnes and Rice Funeral Home of Rockville. Memorial Contributions may be made to Rockville Rotary, PO Box 33, Rockville, IN 47872
