Loretta “Jean” Ebbersten, 84, of Springfield, passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born on March 29, 1936 in Girard, the daughter of Vernon and Maxine England Patrick. She married Charles R. Gilbert in 1956 and later married Carl Ebbersten on December 6, 1996.
Jean was a Springfield High School graduate. She spent many years as a homemaker, devoted to her family, before entering the work force processing insurance claims for NCCI. Jean also worked in the office at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. In her later years, she continued to remain active with the ladies’ group from Springfield High School. She enjoyed flower gardening, antiques, and attending sales/auctions with her husband Carl.
She was preceded in death by her son, Craig Gilbert; husband, Carl Ebbersten; her parents; and her cat, Patches.
She is survived by her children, Gayle (husband, Britt) Edwards of Springfield, Patrick Gilbert of Springfield, and their sisters, Vickie (fiancé, Frank) Power of Springfield and Debbie Gilbert of Riverton; seven grandchildren, Justin and Jon (wife, Myranda) Murray, Meggie and Jason Edwards, Rachel (fiancé, Tim) and Taylor Gilbert, Fred (wife, Stephanie) Farley, and Blake (wife, Lauren) Gilbert; three great-grandchildren, Kylah and Camden Farley and Rowen Gilbert; one brother, Phill (wife, Pat) Patrick; and beloved cat, JJ.
Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Girard Cemetery with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Family and friends may watch the ceremony via livestream after 3 p.m. by visiting
