Marvin William Hertwig Obituary

Marvin W. Hertwig, age 81, of Miltona, died peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2021, surrounded by his family at home under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.

A funeral service will be held 11a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Terry Finnern officiating. Music is provided by organist, Katie Jahnke.  The service will be live streamed on the funeral home website and broadcast on 105.3 FM Radio to cars in the parking lot. Interment will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Miltona.

A visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2021, at Lind Family Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service.

Marvin William was born on January 7, 1940, to Fred and Ida (Kalpin) Hertwig at home on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He attended Country School District #59, through the eighth grade. Marvin’s early years were spent helping on the farm.  He later worked at Northwood Slab Factory, Wrights Tree Service, and the Alexandria Golf Course. He was a life-member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Marvin participated in the Leaf Valley Sportsmen Club and enjoyed deer hunting, and ice fishing.  During summer months, he especially enjoyed watching his nieces and nephew’s water activities on the lake from the view of his golf cart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and their husbands, Doris (Bob) Barten, Luetta (Neil) Thompson and Marie (Gordon) Smith; brother, Fredrich (Nancy) Hertwig; brothers-in-law, Dale Froemming and Kermit Froemming; nephews, Bruce Nye and Steven Nye; and loyal dog, Holly.

Marvin is survived by his sisters, Bernice Froemming of Rochester, Florence Froemming of Hibbing, and Ina (Chuck) Joachim of Miltona; friend, Marlys Eckhoff of Henning; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers are Roger Dittberner, Gary Froemming, Justin Irons, Paul Schmitt, Michael Schmitt, Billy Vukich, and Rick Joachim. Honorary pallbearers are his living and departed hunting buddies.
