Louis T. Schmieder
Louis Theodore Schmieder, age 92, passed away at the Princeton Care Center on January 12, 2021. Louis was born and raised in Elizabeth NJ and lived most of his life in Union NJ. Louis was a US Army Veteran and served in the American Occupation of Japan at the end of World War II. Louis graduated from Newark College of Engineering as a Civil Engineer and worked as an Engineer and Project Manager in the construction industry in NJ for over 40 years. He participated in the construction of many buildings including hospitals, government and educational facilities, and commercial properties and the results of his work can be seen throughout New Jersey. Louis was predeceased by his beloved wife Lois Anne (nee Weber) and his son John. Louis is survived by his daughters Nancy Schmieder Redeker of Cheshire CT and Jayne Hanley of Monmouth Junction NJ, his son Robert of Flemington NJ, three grandchildren (Cristen Redeker Singer of Plymouth MN, Jonathan Redeker of Goshen NY, and Alison Dunn of Morris Plains NJ), and six great grandchildren. Louis was a member of the American Audubon Society and the American Littoral Society and loved hiking, birding, and supporting conservation efforts in NJ. In his later years Louis loved working on household projects and taking care of his yard and garden. Throughout his life, Louis was a devoted husband and father who loved family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Louis loved sharing his family history and sharing memories and stories about his sister and brothers and nieces and nephews. Louis will be sadly missed but will always remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
