Clarence J. March Obituary

Clarence J. “Bud” March, age 96, of York, died at 4:15 AM Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Rest Haven-York.  He was the husband of the late Ruth N. (Erwin) March.

Born January 23, 1924 in York, son of the late Clarence J.R. and Hilda (Hawk) March. He retired in 1996 as a Lineman from MetEd after 34 years of employment.  After retirement he worked for the Pennsylvania Auto Dealers Exchange (PADE) in Strinestown.  He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, and also attended Church of the Open Door on Tuesday mornings for their jam session.  He was active with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 70 years, where he was an Assistant and Scout Master of Troop 18.  He was a recipient of the scouting Silver Beaver Award, as well as the United Methodist God and Service Award. He was a member of the MetEd Retirees Association, and a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow.  He was a Life Member of Hawk Gunning Club and Vigilant Social Club.

Mr. March served as Chief of York City Fire Police for 40 years, and was recognized as Firefighter of the Year in 2003.  He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Police, Volunteer City Police Auxiliary, York County Firemen’s Association, York City Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association, and an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police 15 and 73.  He was a life member of Laurel, Rescue, Vigilant, Grantley, and West York Fire Departments, as well as York County Fire Police Association.

Mr. March is survived by a son, Curtis L. March, and his wife Bonnie, of York; three granddaughters, Suzann M. Robinson, and her husband Scott, Tammy J. Noll, and Cheryl A. Eisenhart, and her husband Greg; seven great grandchildren, Cody, Sawyer, Maggie, Shane, Lilliana, Elena, and Analiese; and one great great granddaughter, Harper.  He was also preceded in death by five sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 North Richland Avenue, York, with his Pastor, Rev. Dr. B. Michael Brossman, officiating.  Viewing will be 8:30-10:30 AM.  Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.  Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 North Richland Avenue, York, PA 17404.
