Mervel Danyel “Danny” Files, 75, of Martinsburg, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his home. Born August 27, 1945, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Mervel Elmo Files and Thelma Katherine Grim Files. Danny was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from 1966 to 1972 as well as a Vet of Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990 and 1991 with the 167th ANG. He was a Respiratory Therapist serving his fellow veterans at the Martinsburg VAMC and a Paramedic serving his community with the South Berkeley Fire Station as well as Baker Heights. He is survived by his wife, Joan Lynn Jenkins Files; two daughters, Dr. Shawn Files, of Pittsburgh, PA, Shelly Poland, and husband John, of Martinsburg; and three grandchildren, Lauryn N. Scott of Arlington, VA, Michael Palumbo, and Katherine Palumbo both of Pittsburg, PA. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 1:00PM at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Cantley and Rev. John Yost officiating. Visitors will be limited to forty people and required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives. Inurnment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
