Bobbie Dwain Carmack Obituary

Bobbie (Bob) Dwain Carmack passed away on December 15, 2020, at the age of 83. Bob was born on March 15, 1937, in Quail, Texas to Austin and Oleta Carmack. He was preceded in death by 5 older siblings. A family move took him to Canon City, Colorado where he graduated high school in 1955. He was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Colorado State University in 1965 and the University of Denver in 1966 with a Master of Arts degree in Library Science. Bob’s distinguished career in the academic library field began at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln followed by a long stint at the University of South Dakota, and finally at the University of Wisconsin, Superior. Upon his retirement from UWS in 2002, he was given the prestigious Chancellor’s Award and was inducted into the UWS Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a devoted member of St. Andrew’s by-the-Lake Episcopal Church and served in several lay-leadership positions there, as well as in the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota. He served a term as President of the Superior Rotary. Bob loved sports of all kinds, and was President of the Superior Curling Club from 1992-94. Bob’s life was devoted to his church, his work, his family, and to helping others. He loved books and read voraciously, he loved music and sang beautifully, and was intensely curious about the world around him. Bob spent the last few months of his life at the Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth, and his family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff there for the care and support they provided him. Bob is survived by his wife of 26 years, JoAnn, his three children Brent (Carmen), Paul (Vicky), and Catherine, and JoAnn’s daughters Ann (Michael) Kraker, and Sara (Jason) Johnson and 12 grandchildren, Lindy and Ben Carmack; Megan (Nick) Carter, Brooke and Adam Carmack; William and Harrison Carmack; Scotland, Arleigh and Finn Kraker; William and Molly Johnson. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s by-the-Lake on Saturday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. Physical attendance will be limited to close family only, but the service will be live-streamed over Zoom and can be accessed by this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85420478503?pwd=RmpvOGswVngrcG1BeVI1KzZ4NGZCdz09
