On January 11, 2021, Walter (88) departed this earth after a brief illness. He was born on July 31, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Thaddeus and Wilhelmina (Ferdinand) Willis. Walter had a wonderful childhood in the city using public transportation to see it all. He was an enterprising youngster doing all kinds of odd jobs. He liked to talk about working in a candy store and helping his Jewish neighbors light their stoves during the Sabbath.

On December 8, 1956, Walter married the love of his life, Francetta Champion. They celebrated 64 years of marriage this past December. This union produced five children, numerous grand, great and great great grandchildren.

Walter was an Air Force veteran serving in both Korea and Vietnam. He also served in Iran as an instructor before the fall of the Shah. Being in the Air Force helped him to see the world. Walter traveled to Europe, North Africa, The Philippines, Thailand and across the USA. He was able to bring his family on some of these tours.

After retiring from the Air Force, Walter went to work for Command Airways in Poughkeepsie. Walter was a crack airplane mechanic for many years before changing fields. He went to work for IBM East Fishkill where he was like “The Mayor” of the 300 buildings. He was in the maintenance department repairing the tools in manufacturing. Everyone knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Francetta, his children, Michael (Donna) Willis, Yvonne Willis, Richard Willis, Audrey Willis and Frances Willis Rumley. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. And all those grands!

Walter was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Thaddeus, Gladys, Joseph, Sheldon, Evetta and David.
