It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that Mariannina (Maria) Caruso- Roccasalva, beloved wife to Gaetano, loving and devoted mother to the late Connie, Rose (Mario), Gina (Brian) and dear Nonna to Lorenzo (Alyssa), Giancarlo (Leandra), Marissa and Nathan, passed away at the age of 88 into the presence of God on Tuesday January 12, 2021 at Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto. Maria was born on October 23, 1932, in Pachino, Sicily, Italy to the parents of Rosaria and Salvatore Caruso. Maria immigrated to Canada in 1961 alongside her husband and two children Connie and Rose for a better life. Maria later gave birth to Gina in 1965. She was courageous and strong for leaving Italy with her two young children to come to Canada. Maria instilled values into her children and grandchildren and led by example. Maria will forever be known as a kind, honest, and hardworking soul. She loved animals, baking, sewing, and more importantly spending time with family. Maria was loved amongst neighbours, and mother to all. Maria hospitality, friendly demeanor and beautiful smile followed her wherever she went and captured the hearts of everyone she encountered. Maria will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We take comfort to know Maria will now be re-united in heaven with her late daughter Connie and family/friends that have passed on.
