Doris E Hunter Obituary

Doris Elizabeth Hunter
July 25, 1929 ~ January 8, 2021 (age 91)
Doris was born July 25, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Bennett and Sue Steele Wesson. Doris was the oldest of five siblings, two sisters - Margurite-Olivia (deceased) and Juanita, and two brothers - Bennett Jr. (deceased) and Harold. Doris graduated from Westfield High School in Birmingham. Doris loved education, was a lifelong avid reader and was known as a good speller and often won Spelling Bee contests.
Doris married Robert (Bob) Hunter (deceased) on November 10, 1947 at the courthouse in Birmingham. They moved from Birmingham to San Diego, California where they brought up their seven children: Barbara Glover, Ronald Hunter (Velma) both deceased, Cynthia Nicholas, Alvin Hunter (Raelene), Rick Hunter, Rita Hunter, and Lynne Davis (Maurice).
After residing in San Diego for 19 years, Robert and Doris moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1971, where Robert was the minister for the North Las Vegas Church of Christ, and Doris served by his side in many capacities including church secretary, teaching children, youth and adults in a variety of bible classes, spiritual counselor, and inspirational speaker over the years at several Ladies' Programs throughout the West Coast States.
Doris touched the lives of many people whether through her early work in California with the public school system, or innumerable church activities, or teaching an Aqua Aerobics class through the YMCA, or residing at the Villa Court assisted living community. Doris was a quiet spirit and a confidant, and she loved the color RED. A servant to the end, Doris will be deeply missed by her surviving children, sister and brother, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, the North Las Vegas Church family, numerous brothers and sisters in Christ, and many friends.
The family of Doris Hunter is appreciative and grateful for the leadership and members of the North Las Vegas Church of Christ and the sincere expression of love demonstrated by the sisters of the congregation for our mother. Thank you for your prayers and support and other acts of love and kindness. Your many thoughtful acts have been a blessing in this season of sorrow.
The graveside service and interment is private. A public memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
