Mildred M. "Millie" Beck

<p>Mildred M. &quot;Millie&quot; (Smith) Beck, 96, formerly of Berwick, passed away January 13, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.&nbsp; She was a resident at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Danville.</p> <p>Born, September 9, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Millard and Verda Smith of Nescopeck.</p> <p>She and Carlton Beck were married upon his return from World War II, and for many years had Beckie&#39;s Sporting Goods in Berwick.&nbsp; Millie loved the outdoors and was an expert marksman and fisherman.&nbsp; She loved the annual family fishing vacations to the Saint Lawrence River, Canada, but her biggest joy was her family, summer picnics, Knoebels, and playing checkers and dominos with her grandchildren.</p> <p>Mildred is survived by her son, Barry, and his wife, Cathy, of Benton; three grandchildren:&nbsp; Ron Beck, Wendy Beck Blouin and Annie Beck Galanda; four great grandchildren:&nbsp; Ethan and Sara Blouin and Bridger and Colter Galanda.</p> <p>In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton; a brother, Jim Smith, and a sister, Mae Smith Scanlon.</p> <p>Due to current restrictions, private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Elan Memorial Park.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Raven Creek Presbyterian Church, 993 Upper Raven Creek Road, Benton, PA 17814.&nbsp; The McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., of Benton, is honored to serve the Beck Family.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

When I worked at Emmanuel, I would always try to get Mildred to join me for some fresh air outside in the courtyard. We would do her nails and enjoy the warmth of the sun. I also enjoyed seeing her smile when for evening snack, I would get her some lactose free ice cream... Continue Reading
