Martin W. Schmude

85, of Mt. Lebanon died on Thursday, January 14, 2021, surrounded by family, at his home in Mt. Lebanon. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 63 years, whom he admired, cherished, and adored above all others; his children Eric Schmude (Michele), Lisa McGreal and Lynn Roberto (Ralph); his grandchildren Christian and Erica Schmude, Kelly Sklar (Joshua), Sarah Stapleton (Richard), Marissa and Joseph Roberto; and his great-grandson Owen Martin Sklar. Martin is also survived by a sister, Eva Pongrace (Paul), and many nieces and nephews. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Marty served his country in the United States Army. He was a hardworking man who always put his family first, retiring from Columbia Gas after 35 years in 1997. Marty was an avid golfer earning four hole-in-ones, as well as club champion at Mt. Lebanon Golf Course over the years. Since retiring, he enjoyed traveling to different courses across the United States with his wife, spending time with his children, and spoiling his grandchildren. When he was not golfing, he could be found at McDonald’s meeting with his coffee clutch buddies or hitting and collecting golf balls at Mt. Lebanon Golf Course. Marty was affectionately called “Papou” by his grandchildren. He was famous for his quick wit, laugh, and chocolate chip cookies. He made friends everywhere he went, even the birds and squirrels would wait for him to feed them in the backyard daily. He was a true social butterfly who brought joy and laughter to those around him. We would like to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to Michelle, Flo, Pam, and Sandy, from Family Hospice, for being so patient and kind and allowing Martin to die with dignity. The family plans no viewing hours. All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Bernard Church (St. Michael the Archangel Parish) on Monday January 18, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.
