LOWELL- Panagiota "Penny" (Glavas) Twomey, Age 63, died peacefully on September 24, 2009 surrounded by her family and friends after a long battle with a brain tumor. She was married to Robert Twomey with whom she celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 22nd. She was born in Greece in January 1st 1946 and was the daughter of Mary Glavas of Holyoke and the late George Glavas. In addition to her husband, Robert, Penny is survived by her sons, Stephen Twomey and his wife Amanda (Allen) and Brian Twomey all of Hudson, NH. Her sisters Shula Glavas of Lowell, Constance Glavas of Holyoke, Bessie Glavas of Tarpon Springs, Florida. Her brothers Xenephon Glavas and his wife Pamela of Los Angeles, California and Demetrios Glavas and his wife Katrina of Oslo, Norway. She also leaves behind many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Penny spent the last 12 years working for L3 Communications and was a very hardworking and exemplary employee. Penny was always vibrant, upbeat and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted volunteer for Camp Fatima, St Jude's Children's Fund and underprivileged children in the community. To those who knew Penny, she was a positive force who was always willing to help those in need. By far, Penny's deepest passion was also her finest attribute which was being an incredible mother. She will be terribly missed by those whose lives were touched by her. The family would also like the thank the staff at Palm Manor Nursing Home for their wonderful care as well as all the amazing family and friends who visited, called, sent letters or otherwise touched Penny's life and put a smile on her face. Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Monday from 4 until 8 PM. Her Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 9 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 AM at St. Michael Church in Lowell. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Camp Fatima, PO Box 206, Gilmanton Iron Works, NH 03837, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl.
