Ernest Gravelle Haileybury, Ontario Obituary

Ernest Gravelle

Passed away peacefully at the Temiskaming Hospital on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the age of 83. Loving husband of 58 years to Rita Gravelle (nee Roy), beloved father of Carole (Shawn) Smith and David (Johanna) Gravelle. Survived by his grandchildren Adrienne, Adam, Maxine and Ansel, his great-grandchildren Jordyn, Austin, Benjamin, Charlotte, Logan and Aurora, and many nephews and nieces. Beloved brother of Rita Charette, and pre- deceased by Noella Lemay, Shirley Knox, Cecile Brassard, Theresa Beaudoin and Robert Gravelle. Ernie was a loving husband, proud father and playful grandfather. Nothing made him happier than having his family around him. He was a strong-willed man who lived a full and active life. Ernie was born in Callander, Ontario to Eva LeBoeuf. Ernie started working at a very young age and had many different jobs in logging and mining. He worked at Sherman Mine from the time it opened until its closure. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and minnowing in the Temagami area. He was a passionate hockey fan who loved to watch hockey especially when Dave played. He was also an ace curler – a natural skip as he liked to tell people what to do. Ernie will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium in Haileybury, Ontario. Celebration of life will take place at a later date due to Covid-19. Arrangements entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home Haileybury, 705-672-3122. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Heart and Stoke Foundation. Online condolences accepted at www.buffamleveille.com.

My thoughts and prayers are with Rita and family. Ernie was a good friend and fellow “Lion” while I served as principal of Temagami Public. The Gravelle’s gave me a second home to stay overnight on many occasions. Thanks Ernie for enriching my life. Douglas Bolger
