Willie Davis Obituary

Willie Davis

On January 7, 1938 in Santa Rosa County, Milton, Florida, Bolden and Eva Davis gave birth to a sweet baby girl they named “Willie Margie Davis”. After a sweet birthday dinner on January 9, 2021, our precious “Margie” left us suddenly on Sunday, January 10, 2021. We were so not ready for her to leave us, but God’s plans were much better than ours. He allowed her to rejoin her parents Bolden and Eva, sister Nellie Allen and brothers, Tommie Lee Gooden and Bolden Davis Jr. “Margie” was the nucleus, the center of the Davis family. She meant the world to her sisters, Janet Gooden, Phyllis (James) Palmer, Patricia (David) Riley of Milton, Florida and Bettye (Robert) Sutton of Lompoc, California. Her home was the hub of our existence. We could always find the most delicious foods in her kitchen. No one called her Mom, at least not out loud; and although she never had children of her own, she was a Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother to ALL of her nieces and nephews. She reveled in the fact that she always received more Mothers’ Day presents than any of the others. They all loved their “Aunt Margie”. Margie was truly a godly person who always had a kind word and an open heart for everyone. It is an honest statement to say she always had a kind word. Her only gossip consisted of talking about soap opera characters. She was a lifelong member of St. John Divine Missionary Baptist Church in Milton, Florida where she was a faithful member. The only thing that kept her from her beloved church, and the people she loved there, was the Covid-19 pandemic. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Choir Number 1 where she, along with her best and lifetime friend Ella Cawthon, sang a “fierce” alto. Margie was a graduate of T.R. Jackson High School and later became a Food Service Worker there. After she retired on June 1, 1993, she and Ella then managed St. John Divine’s kitchen ministry for 25 years, serving members and visitors alike the most mouth-watering food. She not only filled their stomachs, she filled their hearts. Her love is deeply rooted in the hearts of many. We were privileged to call her Sister, Aunt and Friend. She has left a remarkable legacy and example. She is incredibly missed by her family, many friends, a very devoted friend, Lynn Hamilton and two Godchildren, Frankie Marjean Stanley of Orlando, Florida, and Eric Marcel Williams of Atlanta, Georgia. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Magnolia Cemetery.
