Wilfred Arndt Obituary

Wilfred Arndt

Wilfred "Whiff" Arndt, 82, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Nancy E. (Cobain) Arndt. Born in Glocester, he was a son of the late Carl I. and Rowena L. (Howard) Arndt. He lived in North Scituate for many years before moving to Harrisville in 2015. Whiff enjoyed a career with the State of RI Department of Environmental Management for 27 years before retiring in 1990 from the Forestry Division. Afterwards, he became a school bus driver in the Town of Scituate for another 15 years. He was active in his community which included being a former member of the Scituate Jaycees, a beloved little league coach, former Scituate Town Tree Warden, a poll moderator, and involved with many local community associations. In his free time, Whiff loved fishing, camping, travelling and going on "mystery rides" with family and close friends. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his daughter, Letitia E. Velleca and her husband Christopher of Pascoag, and his son, Benjamin C. Arndt of Harrisville. He was the brother of Winifred Myers of Lowville, NY and the late Everett Howard, Carl Arndt and Donald Arndt. Whiff is also survived by his loving grandchildren Thomas and Rebecca Arndt, Zachary and Alexander Velleca, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to Covid restrictions, his funeral and burial will be private. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date when it is safe for all to gather together. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 will be appreciated.

I am so saddened to hear of Whiff’s passing. Such a gentle soul, and likely the only individual who could convince four kids that cows could produce caramel candy. My sincere sympathy, Nancy and family. So appreciative I was able to see you both last year.
