Helen Y. Stone Obituary

Helen Y. Stone, 89, of North Syracuse, died on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Helen was proud a graduate of Eastwood High School, Syracuse University and Sargents College at Boston University. She was the Director of Physical Therapy at St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center for 27 years. She began her PT career at Strong Memorial Hospital, and also worked at the Cerebral Palsy Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Helen was a lifelong member of Eastwood Baptist Church where she served on the Board, and was recently recognized as a Deacon Emeritus. She was a member of the Bona Dea Circle. She was active in the Civic Social Club of Greater Syracuse, and a founding member of the TOPS Club in N. Syracuse, achieving her KOPS status. She enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge clubs, winters in Florida at Briny Breezes and camping at Pathfinder Lodge. Helen was a member of the Phi MU Fraternity and the Outing Club while at Syracuse University where she met her husband. She was predeceased by her husband SFC Arthur W. Stone, parents Charles and Leona Yarrington and grandson Timothy Stone. Her surviving family includes her children: Jim Stone of North Syracuse, Sue (Bill) Bradt of Liverpool, William (Cathy) Stone of Cazenovia; brother James (Flornie) Yarrington of Texas; grandchildren: Katie (Nate) McBride, Dan (Krista) Stone, Nikki Stone, Anne (Felipe) Nava, Amy Bradt, Desirae (Cory) McNierney, Montgomery Stone; and 10 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be on Thursday January 21, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held in the Eastwood Baptist Church on Friday January 22, 2021 at 11am with burial to follow in White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, Make A Wish of CNY and March of Dimes.
