Seng Thi Ho Obituary

SENG THI HO 1929-2021 A Vietnamese woman, born in Cambodia at the time that higher education was not afforded to her, she somehow managed to raise up 7 children and provide them with a good education and all the amenities a child could only dream of during that time. The down-fall of the Vietnamese and Cambodian democratic regimes brought extra burden on her shoulders… Under Khmer Rouge Polpots regime, the family was driven out of their home in Phnom Penh to live in the jungle, fending off starvation for their own livelihood. Her wit, wisdom, and sacrifice kept them alive until being repatriated to Vietnam. More than that, from a temporary domicile in Vietnam, she worked very hard to provide them a bridge to cross over the troubled waters for a better life here in this country. A remarkable woman, full of energy with steadfast resolve, she lived her life to the fullest. Always keeping busy, she excelled in cooking and sewing, and never wasted any time sitting around not doing anything, even in her advanced age. When she was still mobile, with the support from her children, she travelled extensively across Vietnam, Cambodia, and to foreign country like Thailand, France, and Canada to visit her relatives. After being afflicted with stroke, the third time in 2002, she was wheelchair bound and moved from New York City to live with her daughters family in Windsor, CT. A few times a year, especially during holiday seasons, all the children and grandchildren would get together in Windsor to celebrate with her. That was her happiest of times, given the fact that they live in different states across the USA. Usually, on those occasions, the grandchildren were given the "red envelopes" that contained money, considered as lucky seed in Asian culture. She loved her 7 adult children, but passionately was in love with her grandchildren, regardless of their ages. Out of 15 grandchildren, there are two who will make her a great grandmother. That brought her so much joy upon learning about that news on her death bed... In the last three weeks of her life, she was surrounded by all of her children and grandchildren who took turns watching and caring for her around the clock. Even the dog, Sophie, participated in watching her patiently along with others. She will be dearly missed. The world lost a kind-hearted and hardworking mother. The extended family lost a beacon of love and magnet of unity. Good-bye Mother, good-bye Grandmother, good-bye future Great grandmother…. Rest In Peace. Well never forget you.
