Gene Edward Swittenburg
<p>Mr. Gene Edward Swittenburg passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital.</p> <p>He was born in Prosperity, South Carolina on January 8, 1959, to the late Claude T. Swittenburg and the late Edith Bookman Sweetenburg. He was a dedicated member of Mt. Hebron AME Church where he served compassionately on the Usher Board, Vice President of the Mt. Hebron Gospel Choir, President of Mt. Hebron Male Chorus, a member of the Sons of Allen and the Men of Faith and Chairman of the Trustee Board. He worked for NWS for over 20 years, then he became the owner of Swittenburg Trucking.</p> <p>Affectionately known as Pulpwood, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. His favorite pastime was baking sweet potato pies and singing. His favorite slang was ' anybody told you they love you today?"</p> <p>Mr. Swittenburg was predeceased by a son, Tyrone Neal.</p> <p>Surviving are his wife, Barbara Neal; daughter, Tatianna Swittenburg; brother, Claude Swittenburg (Emma) of Johnston, SC; sisters, Mary Swittenburg of Norristown, PA, Mildred Johnson of Prosperity, SC, Lula Mae Prince of Norristown, PA, Emma Swittenburg of Clinton, SC and Kathleen Meggett of Newberry, SC; devoted great-nephew, Kaydence A. Jacobs, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three aunts, Carol, Georgia and Mary D. Bookman; four uncles, Albert, Terry and Roy Bookman; Roger Ruff all of Prosperity, SC;seven brothers-in-law, James Heyward Neal, Sr., Bennie Neal, Sr. (Geneva), Jacob Neal, Sr. (Donna), Johnnie Neal, Jimmie Neal, Richard Neal Sr. (Debra),, Calvin Neal (Carissa); five sisters-in-law, Bessie Neal Hill (Timothy), Genovia Neal, Rev. Carolyn Neal, Alecia Johnson and Pamela Neal-Randolph (Curtis); devoted friends, Terry Wheeler, Steve Dominick, John Bush, Stanley Mills, Patrick Mills, Albert Bookman, William Wise and Butler Cromer and numerous relatives.</p> <p>Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Hebron AME Church.
