Nanda Tilstra
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Nanda Tilstra (nee Krist) of Norval, Ontario, announce her peaceful passing at home, on January 9, 2021. She is predeceased by her parents, Ann & Roelof Krist, and her brother, Jerry Krist. She is survived by her adoring husband Douwe, of 54 years, and her children: Jo-Anna Nadalin (Robert), Marlene Wilson, Rudy and Ronald (Sudha.) She was a proud Beppe to: Brittany, Jessica, Charlotte, Savannah, Athena, Matthew, Shrayis, Vidya and Reyva. Her sister, Alida Thomas, her brothers, Rudy, Raymond, Brian (Grace) and Rene (Lisa) and many nieces and nephews. Born in Amsterdam, she emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 10 and settled in Toronto, then Mississauga. Sharp as a tack, she started her bookkeeping career when she was 18, counting the money for many businesses right up until last week. She met the love of her life at a Dutch dance in Oakville and we heard many times how she could cut a rug but her future husband had two left feet. They married in 1966 and their adventure began. They started their life in Brampton but moved to Norval in 1973 where they raised their family. Her house was in a constant rotation of redecorating and her hands were never idle: she was either knitting or crocheting or sewing or baking or Googling or breeding Samoyeds or watering her flowers or reading. And man, could she cook! Raising children was her gift and when that job was done, grandchildren entered her life giving her her greatest joy. Sleepovers, watching old movies, many many sewing projects, building computers and making dolls. She was all about family togetherness and we will keep all of our traditions going with her in our hearts. Watch over us Mom; we will do you proud because we learned so well from you. Good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite! Pleasant dreams, happy schemes! A memorial is planned for a time when we can all celebrate her life together.March 8, 1944 - January 9, 202103/08/194401/09/2021

My mother-in-law left quite a legacy: she raised four children - my brother-in-law and sisters-in-law who are kind, smart and support each other without question. Her five granddaughters and grandson (before my brood joined) are each hysterically funny, have purpose and ... Continue Reading

For my Beppe.
It feels impossible to wrap up a lifetime’s worth of memories, stories, and feelings into a few words, but I’m going to do my best.
Beppe loved her family more than anything. She loved any excuse we could find to spend time together. She loved her anima... Continue Reading

Beppe was such a light, and her home a place of great comfort, for as long as I can remember. Some of the greatest highlights of my childhood happened at her home: learning how to sew, catching rabbits in the backyard, marveling at the miniature Christmas town, trying to... Continue Reading

To the greatest Beppe I could have asked for,
There's too many things to thank you for. From when I was little into adulthood you've helped me through everything. You taught me how to be strong and leant me a hand when I couldn't be. You protected me and made me feel sa... Continue Reading
