<p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Bridgeport~ James Vernon &ldquo;Sam&rdquo; Cheves, 84, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Bridgeport.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial to follow in West Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Bro. Ray Cook, Jr. will officiate. Pallbearers are to include Dwayne Garrett, Ricky Garrett, Kelly Garrett, Tim Garrett, Willie Garrett, Bobby Rodriguez, Sonny Coleman and Randy Coleman.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Sam was born on June 14, 1936 to Woodrow and Leta Mae (Crawford) Cheves in Willow Point, Texas. Sam was a veteran and proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Suzy (Garrett) Cheves on December 13, 1954 in Bridgeport and together 52 wonderful years until her passing on November 26, 2007. He was retired from the Oil and Gas Industry. Sam was the epitome of a dedicated family man. Leading by example and teaching his loved ones that family truly is the most important thing in life. Bridgeport~ James Vernon “Sam” Cheves, 84, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Bridgeport.

Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial to follow in West Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
