Christopher “Chris” Melvin Key

Christopher “Chris” Melvin Key, 49 of Seabrook, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, in Baytown.  Chris was born October 28, 1971 in Texas City to parents Vernon Melvin Key and Joyce Elaine Knehans.  He was a graduate of Clear Lake High School, attended Stephen F. Austin University, and was most recently an inspector in the petrochemical field.  He was charismatic, known for his infectious laugh, and would lighten up the room when he entered.  He enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, and spending time with his sons.  He was a die-hard Astros and Nebraska football fan and was frequently seen proudly sporting his corn Husker gear. 

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Joy Doerr.  He is survived by his sons: Tyler Key and Connor Key, father: Melvin Key and wife Susan, stepfather: Fred Doerr and wife Elva, siblings: Cindy Sperry and husband Mark, Lisa Baerenwald and husband Mark, David Key and wife Yvette, Kenny Key and wife Chrystal, Leslie Allen and husband Leon, Stephanie Zepeda and husband Louis, Holly Tortone and husband Mike, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home Chapel.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.
