Longtime Alaskan Sally Heath, 80, passed away at home from pancreatic cancer on January 12, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. A service will be held at Summit Worship Center at 1pm with Sally’s Celebration of Life immediately following, also at the church. Sally was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clem and Helen Sheeran. A 1958 graduate of Richland High School, she attended college in Washington before marrying Charles R. Heath in Sandpoint, Idaho. Chuck and Sally moved to Skagway, Alaska to teach school in 1964, moving to Eagle River then to Wasilla in 1971. Sally touched the lives of thousands of Alaskan students as an Administrative Assistant in many local schools. She retired from the Mat-Su School District then worked as a Wildlife Specialist for the USDA. Sally traveled to many international locations for her second career, including working at the World Trade Center site immediately after 9/11, on the Palmyra Islands for the Nature Conservatory, and many rugged and remote locations on the globe, including along the coast of Alaska. Sally was a world traveler and relished her many trips to Africa, Israel, China, untouched lands in the Arctic, and many other global destinations that she and Chuck had taught about for years and then got to experience first-hand. Sally was devoted to her large family and loved including family and friends in her many adventures. Her interests and passions over the years included her church, hunting and fishing, hiking, campfires, marathon running, cross-country skiing, five decades involved in high school sports including coaching cross-country and volunteering for many Valley youth sports organizations and teams, musicals, community theatre, volunteer church secretary, sewing, berry picking, Jeopardy, daily crossword puzzles, and many evenings of Pinnacle and Scrabble. Sally participated in Aglow, the Salvation Army Board, the Valley Hospital Advisory Board, Div. of Elections Poll Worker, Heartreach Pregnancy Center, 4-H, the Annual Wasilla Community Christmas, AK Mountaineering Club, Mat-Su Rock and Mineral Club, Mat-Su Republican Women’s Club, Mat-Su Running Club, and so many more. Sally’s gift of hospitality delighted everyone she met. She cooked for, served, and housed countless friends and family members, and even invited innumerable tourists into her home to share her unique and vibrant Alaskana lifestyle. Sally loved to join Chuck in showcasing all the Last Frontier had to offer. She was constantly answering thousands of pieces of correspondence from people around the world — always encouraging and uplifting them with gratitude for their interest in Alaska and her family, including a Bible verse or positive quote in all of her answers. Sally is survived by the love of her life — her husband Chuck, with whom she’d celebrate their 60th anniversary this year. The joys of her life were her husband, friends, dogs, and most dear were her children and their families: Chuck Heath, Jr., Heather Bruce, Sarah Palin, and Molly McCann, all of Alaska. Sally is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Alaska, Texas, Arizona, and New York City: Track, Bristol, Payton, Lauden, Kier, Karcher, Willow, Landon, McKinley, Piper, Teko, Heath, Trig, Tripp, Kyla, Sophie, Aysa, Sailor, Charlie, Aksel, Atlee, Anson, Banks, and Blaise. She is also survived by her siblings and their families in Texas and Washington: the Pat Sheeran family, the Colleen Sheeran-Jones family, the Kate Sheeran-Johnson family, the Peggy Sheeran (Morgan)-Finch family, and the Michael Sheeran family. Arriving in heaven before Sally were her mother and father, one brother, one sister, parents- and sisters-in-law, and dear friends with whom she’s now singing, rejoicing, and awaiting a grand eternal reunion. Friends are invited to Sally’s funeral service at Summit Worship Center in Wasilla, 1pm on Friday Jan. 22, 2021. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately, also at the church. Pastor Dave Dahms will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Track Palin, Payton McCann, Karcher Bruce, Landon Bruce, Kier Heath, Teko Heath, Heath Wooten, and Trig Palin.
