Obituary

Flora Scarlet Johnson, 79, of Crossett, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the Gardner Nursing and Rehab Center in Star City, Arkansas.  She was born on June 21, 1941, to her parents, Issac Franklin and Flora Nell Booher Scroggins.  She was raised on a farm in the delta of South Arkansas and attended school with her seven siblings in Wilmot.

For over fifteen years, Flora and her husband, Carlos, owned and operated two flooring stores in Canton, Texas.  Later they moved to Crossett, where she went back to school, earned her GED, and became an LPN while in her 40’s.  She began a lucrative career at the Crossett Leisure Lodge, where she often prayed with residents who had no family and witnessed to them before they passed.  Volunteering for the holiday shifts was also a common practice for Flora, allowing the younger staff with children to be with their families.

Flora was a hard worker, an outdoor lover, and an amazing gardener.  She sold vegetables at the local farmers' market and spent hours working in her garden.

She was a member of the North Crossett First Baptist Church and, before her illness, was very active and enjoyed singing in the choir.

She read her bible daily and enjoyed sharing with anyone who would listen.

She was devoted to her family and especially to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Carlos Ray Johnson; one granddaughter, Ashlie Patrick Block; and three siblings, Nellie and Joseph Scroggins, Issac Scroggins, Jr., and an infant sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Dickson (Huey), and son, David Johnson (Melissa), all of Crossett; three siblings, Billy Scroggins (Betty) of Monticello, and Annie and Jimmy Scroggins, both of Crossett; along with five grandchildren, Kevin David Johnson, Alex Ray Johnson, David Andrew Dickson, Miranda Kay Johnson Kelley, and Jillian Dickson; and eleven great-grandchildren, David Michael Patrick, McKenzie Johnson, Jonas Alexander Block, Ethan Andrew Block, Kayslee Braswell, River Kay Kelley, Lilly Ann Johnson, Adley Johnson, Dawson Kelley, Pierce Jantzen Dickson, and Ellie Grace Dickson.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, at the Parkdale Cemetery, with Pastor Robin Allen officiating.  Pallbearers are Kevin Johnson, Alex Johnson, Drew Dickson, Huey Dickson, David Patrick, and Luke Saucier.

Services entrusted to Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
