In his youth he was known as Eddie. As he became older he went by Ed. In 1973, after he became youth choir director, he was tagged "Big Ed" by one of his choir members.

Eddie & Betty Jean Faulkner were married on December 4, 1954, at Tulsa's Trinity Baptist Church. They courtship began in 1953 at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly. They were blessed with more than 66 years of marriage.

Ed was active at Trinity Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday school department secretary.
