Larry Davis Storer Obituary

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Larry Davis Storer, loving husband and father of two, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 75. Graveside services will 1:00pm, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Waco Memorial Park, with Rev. Dick Wooten & Dr. Cary Killough officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be 2-5 pm, Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Due to current local and state guidelines, we will require face coverings, and social distancing at this time.  We encourage you to sign the online register book, or leave a message on the tribute wall.  If you are unable to attend the service, we will live stream on Grace Gardens Facebook page, and later add it to the obituary page on our website.

Larry was born on March 26, 1945 in Dunsmuir, California to Harold and Viola Storer. He received his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1967, a master’s degree from Lamar University in 1977 and he worked in journalism for 52 years. On November 2, 1969, he married Patricia Eileen Payne. They raised two sons, Lance & Troy.

Larry loved his Lord and his country. He also had a passion for writing. An ordained minister, he taught English at Golden Gate Seminary after graduating from Baylor. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1969, where he wrote for the Archives on the withdrawal of the U.S. from Vietnam. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1973, he began a career in journalism in Beaumont before moving back to Waco in 1980, where he taught journalism at Baylor until 1986. After leaving Baylor, he became Editor for Publications & Communication Inc, continuing with them until December 2020. 

In the rare moments Larry wasn’t working, he dearly loved following all Baylor sports, reading, spending time with his family, and his church family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Viola; his brother, Buddy; his sister Mable and her husband R.D. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Eileen; his two sons, Lance and wife, Tammy, and Troy; grandson Lance Jacob; his sister-in-law Gerry; many nieces & nephews; and many loving friends.

Honorary Pallbearers are Lance Storer, Lance Jacob Storer, Troy Storer, Jack Payne, James Holland & Richard Suggs.
