Rudolf “Rudy” Elmer Karis of Spaulding Township, Michigan Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Chesaning Comfort Care. He was 95 years old. Rudolf E. Karis was born on March 6, 1925, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Robert and Lydia (Schmidt) Karis. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II; receiving an honorable discharge on September 28, 1945, receiving many awards and commendations throughout his campaign. Rudy married the love of his life, Barbara A. Jarembo on May 9, 1964, in Ohio; she preceded him in death on October 20, 2007. He worked as a machinist with Saginaw Steering Gear for over 30 years. Rudy enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, and traveling to every state but two. Surviving are three sons and two daughters: William (Jeanette) Karis of Spokane, WA; James (Susan) Gilbert of Spaulding Township; Gloria Hanes of Montrose; Alan (Beverly) Karis of Frankenmuth; Kathy Hudson of Oakley; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Janet Gilbert of Curran. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gilbert; sister, Erma (Clare) Brevis; brother, Carl Karis. Military Honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Wildwood Cemetery in Chesaning under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #468 A Committal Service will follow with Pastor Paul Tessmer officiating. In accordance with Michigan Department of Health and Human services ordinance, masks are required and social distancing is encouraged.
