Lawrence "Larry" D. Hayes Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” D. Hayes, 82, of Springfield, died at 6:47 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital. Larry was born on March 21, 1938, in Springfield, the son of Floyd and Rachel (Sanders) Hayes. He married Mary Porto in 1960 in Springfield. Larry graduated from Springfield High School in 1956. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960. Larry was a lifetime member of the American Motorcyclist Association where he received many national and local awards. He worked as a carpenter for Local Union 16 from the age of sixteen until his retirement. Larry loved off road motorcycles and raced until he was 64 years old. He enjoyed gardening, fishing in Tomahawk, WI, and loved spending time with his family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Warren Hayes. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Springfield; son, Craig (Becky) Hayes of Ramsey; and two nieces, Sandy and Pam and their families. Private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family is being served by Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.
