Obituary
Robert Louis Himmelberger Sr., age 93, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on January 9, 2021. A Missouri native and an Army veteran, he and Mom moved to Phoenix in 1950, with me in tow. An excellent student all of his life, Dad was forced to leave Princeton during his first year after developing a severe case of asthma. He subsequently ended up in Arizona with other asthma sufferers at the time. He eventually earned three degrees at ASU, including a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate Degree. Shortly thereafter, he founded H&H Investment, a local real estate investment company. Among other things, Dad enjoyed traveling, which he and Mom did extensively, all over the world. A frustrated architect, he built much of the family home on his own, block by block, nail by nail, screw by screw, with little outside professional help. He also enjoyed reading, especially medical books/periodicals and, his primary source of general information, the Wall Street Journal. Dad’s major claim to fame is that he was the Pomelo Park Great Pumpkin, a neighborhood institution for a legion of kids down through the years (with Mom’s help). He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Barbara Ann. A father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather, he is survived by my two brothers, Rob and Steve, our sister, Barbara Ann (Crawford), myself, John, and our respective families. He will be missed by some and not by others. Principled and analytical, Dad oftentimes frustrated those around him. Albeit, I think I can safely say that he did so without malice. He just viewed the world through a different lens. I, for one, will miss him. I just hope that he is not giving God a hard time. That might not bode well for the family. For those wanting to pay their last respects, Dad is resting in peace with Mom at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale, following a private service for the family on January 15, 2021.
