Velma Irean Peacock Obituary

Velma Irean Peacock, 87, of Columbus, passed away at 6:02 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born December 25, 1933, in Shelby County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius M. and Eula B. (Smith) Reece. She married Lowell Peacock, on June 22, 1952, at the Weston Baptist Church in Jennings County; he survives.

Velma was a 1953 graduate of Paris Crossing High School and worked in the Clerical/Office for 3M in Hartford City retiring, in 1995 after 26 years. She enjoyed reading, nature, birdwatching and flowers.

Velma is survived by her husband, Lowell; and her son, Steven (Cheryl) Peacock of Alabama; daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Wheeler of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Nathan (Cindy) Wheeler of Chicago, Illinois, Amber (Cory) Hill of Brownsburg, Aaron (Allyson) Peacock of Alabama, Adam Wheeler of Indianapolis, and Spencer Wheeler of Illinois; and great—grandchildren, Jaxson Katz, Keegan Katz, and Tyson Hill, all of Brownsburg, Blake Wheeler and Alex Wheeler, both of Chicago, Illinois, Maddox Peacock and Cooper Peacock, both of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Layman.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation is planned and no services to be held at this time. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.

Memorials may be made in honor of Velma through the funeral home to the American Heart Association.
