Ruth Lucille Beasley Obituary

Ruth Lucille Beasley, age 104 years, was born June 20, 1916, in Harrison County, Missouri, to John William “Pap” and Belva Dora (Justice) Cook, who died when Ruth was eight months old. Ruth died on January 11, 2021, at her home in Leon, Iowa after living through two world pandemics. Ruth grew up in Pawnee, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Hubert Porter Beasley on May 18, 1935. Hubert died on January 22, 1992. To their 57-year union, they were blessed with six children, Larry, Gary, Terry, Mary, Michael, and Kenneth. Larry died in 2017, and Mary in 2014. Ruth loved to garden until she was no longer able to. When living in the apartment, she went to Bob and Mary’s and planted in their garden. She froze hundreds of gallons of corn and canned green beans. She also froze applesauce for the grandkids. In 1966, Ruth started a career at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon. After retiring she and Hubert spent many winters in Texas. She enjoyed it, but was always ready to get back home. She also enjoyed crocheting and for years she made the pies for her daughter’s restaurant. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her hot rolls and cinnamon rolls. In later years, she loved talking on the phone and anticipating who would call each day. She loved kids, especially her grandchildren, then her great grandchildren. She enjoyed their drop in visits. She always asked about their day and asked for kisses when they left. When she was still able, she drove to Lamoni to visit her brother, George. Ruth had a lifelong faith in God, going to her first church service alone at the age six. If she met you, she prayed for you. She always stated, “I love you but God loves you more.” When she became homebound, some of the youth people from Trinity Church brought the Bible study to her home so she could continue to enjoy the Bible. God and the Bible were the most important in her life. Preceding her in death were many family and friends who she was anxious to get to Heaven to see. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Christian Church at 10 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021, with Pastor Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Davis City Cemetery, Davis City, Iowa. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.
