James Douglas Still

James D. Still, 80, of Egan, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. James was born on November 26, 1940 to his parents, Clifford and Gladys Still. He went to South Dakota School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He was married to his first wife, Jo Ann Still for 19 years. They had two daughters, Esther and Sarah. He later was married to his second wife, Hsu Still for 33 years and had two step-sons, Allen and Tai, and a step-daughter, Dana. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Masonic Unity Lodge #130 in Sioux Falls. He worked as a printer in Burbank, California while residing in Lancaster, California until his retirement. They made their home in Sioux Falls until his mother’s passing. He moved to his farm in Egan, SD. He was a life-long member of South Dakota Association of the Deaf and was involved on many committees and one official capacity as Vice President. He enjoyed meeting with many deaf friends all over the country. James was a history buff with a passion for research related to deaf individuals which led to his involvement with SDAD Hall of Fame. He worked hard to develop the program to assure that all people deserve to be inducted or recognized. He also had been heavily involved with his writing and researching his beliefs about the ancient spiritual world and mysteries; such as Hollow Earth, pyramids and any other noble person all over the world. James enjoyed traveling and visited many countries including Egypt, China, Tibet, India, Beagle Channel between Punta Arenas in Chile and Ushuaia in Argentina, Moscow, Taiwan, Turkey, Greenland, Iceland, England, Germany, France, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. He also visited his cousins in Norway, where his mother came from. He is survived by Hsu Still, his daughters Esther Still and Sarah Still; his step-sons, Allen (Lisa), and Tai., his step-daughter, Dana (James) Gaither; his grandchildren, Staphany Lin, Sean (Tessa) Gaither, and Erin Gaither; his nephew, Tim Still. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Gladys Still, his step-father, Delbert Zeller and his younger brother, Gerald Still.
