Arthur Duncan McKeen passed away January 8, 2021, at the age of 92 in his hometown of Flin Flon, Manitoba. He was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, September 8, 1928, to his parents, Robert Duncan McKeen and Mary Louise Byrnes, and he was the youngest of their six children. He moved with his parents to the Flin Flon area as a young child, when his father moved to fi nd work during the Great Depression. Arthur grew up in the north as a true northerner. He played hockey and scrapped with his older brothers Gordon and Charlie. All three brothers proudly played hockey at the same time for the Flin Flon Senior Bombers. Arthur was also a Wheatie, having played for the Brandon Wheat Kings. Hockey was an important part of his life, and he coached various levels of hockey and even played hockey well into his 70’s. He married Irma Fuchs in 1951, and they made a mighty fine looking couple. With Irma he raised his five children: Sandra (Arthur) Dixon, Dennis (Joanne) McKeen, Sherron (Richard) Russell, Shelly (Lyle) Kubat, Valerie (Trevor) Klasson. He is predeceased by Irma, who passed in 1986. He apprenticed and then worked as a high steel rigger at Hudbay (then Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting) until he left in 1972 to build McKeen’s Trucking Ltd full time, a business he had started with his father as a young man. He later continued to build his family business with his children Sandra and Dennis. Arthur enjoyed a second relationship with Edna “Gunny” O’Brien, and they showed everyone how retirement should be done in Osoyoos, BC, until her passing in 2015. He is survived by his sister Margaret Henry (100), his five children, nine grandchildren and fourteen beautiful great-grandchildren. He spent his entire life in the embrace of his family, working and playing hard, and each of us will miss him just as much as we loved him. A private family celebration for Art McKeen will be held at a later date.
