It is with deep sorrow, yet gratitude for a life well-lived, that the family of Ivan Denstedt of Listowel, announce his passing on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, in his 92nd year. His loving partner, Dorothy, with whom he celebrated 71 years of marriage in 2020, was at his side. William Ivan was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Mornington Township to Edgar and Evelyn (Burnett) Denstedt. He grew up on the family farm on Highway 86, west of Dorking, where he went on to farm and raise his own family after marrying Dorothy (Trix) Mabel Ann (Jacobs) Denstedt on Oct. 1, 1949. Ivan was predeceased by his parents, an infant sister, older brother Jim, younger brother Lyle (Newt), daughter Shelley Hollis, son-in-law John Hollis, and mother-in-law Mamie Jacobs. Father of Bev (Miles) Dadson of Listowel, Jim (Kim Dadson) Denstedt of Elmira, Bill (Marj Lebel) Denstedt of St. Clements, and Bob (Pam Stewart) Denstedt of St. Clements. Grandfather of Laura (Trevor) Chambers, Cambridge; Amy (Matthew) Fischer, Listowel; Mark (Anneliese) Denstedt, Baden; Samara (Travis) Kell, Kitchener; Sharlyn (Scott) Gillespie, Colbourne; Josslyn (Adam) Campagnolo, Baden; Michael (Becky) Hollis, Toronto; Matthew Hollis, Kingston; Mallory (Brandon Steacy) Hollis, Gananoque; Reid Denstedt, Baden; and Austin Denstedt, St. Clements. Survived by his sister-in-law Marion Denstedt as well as 13 great grandchildren: Abi, Caleb, Ava Chambers; Cruz, Layla Fischer; Emma, Carter, Charlotte Denstedt; Savannah, Spencer Gillespie; Charlie Campagnolo; Blake Steacy; and Oliver Hollis. As well as farming, Ivan worked many years on the roads for Mornington Township, and on construction sites for Seegmillers and Arnott Construction. He was one of the original members of the Listowel Cyclones Booster Club, an active member of the Milverton Legion Branch 565 (a top elimination draw salesman), and an avid card player at home and the Listowel Legion with the North Perth Seniors. Ivan and Dorothy enjoyed a long retirement in which they enjoyed bus trips, horse racing, and travel to Las Vegas. A private family funeral service will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Sonja van de Hoef-Fraser of Milverton United Church officiating. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, please do not attend. Instead, the funeral will be live-streamed, and we ask you to watch safely from your home. Click here to view service.
