William Edgar "Wig" Hardin

<p>William Edgar &ldquo;Wig&rdquo; Hardin, age 98, of West Virginia Avenue, Springfield, passed away at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Landmark of Bardstown.</p> <p>A native of Washington County, he was born on August 21, 1922 to the late Russell H. and Ethel Gray Hardin.</p> <p>He was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church, a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge #50 F &amp; AM where he served several times as Master, a retired employee of the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, a retired school bus driver for the Washington County Public Schools, for many years he was a farmer and was an avid nascar enthusiast and enjoyed playing pool and croquet.</p> <p>Preceding him in death was his wife, Beulah Harlow Hardin on January 27, 1999; two daughters, Ruth Ann Hardin on February 15, 2020 and Deborah Kaye Hardin on April 8, 1957; a sister, Ruby G. Cheser on March 8, 1952 and three brothers, James H. Hardin on November 5, 1990, Dorchester Hardin on February 16, 2002 and Joseph Lee Hardin on April 14, 2003.</p> <p>Survivors include a daughter, Norma Jean Yankey (William &ldquo;Corky&rdquo;) of Springfield; three grandchildren, LeAnn Mattingly (Jim) of Springfield, Michelle Sutton (Mark) of Frankfort and David Yankey (Stacey) of Floyds Knobs, IN and eight great grandchildren, Madeline Mudd Gash (Michael), Eli Sutton, Kimber Sutton, Luke Mattingly, Evan Mattingly, Caleb Yankey, Katie Yankey and Micah Coy Yankey.</p> <p>A walk-thru visitation will be held at Carey &amp; Son Funeral Home from 10:30 until 12:30 Saturday, January 9th with private funeral services to follow. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Compton, a former pastor of Springfield Baptist Church. He will be assisted by Rev. Aaron Sherrell, the church pastor.</p> <p>Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.</p> <p>A masonic service will be held at 10:00 Saturday morning at the funeral home with Gilbert Curry delivering the eulogy.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Springfield Baptist Church Floor Fund or Oneida Baptist Institute.</p> <p>Carey &amp; Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.</p>
